Don't worry - be happy
I recently read a blog post on the much-discussed subject of male erections in a naturist environment. The post took the stance that having an erection in a naturist environment is always unacceptable, completely against naturist etiquette and will probably result in the person involved being asked to leave.
However, in doing so, it also acknowledged something which is often forgotten - that younger men, in particular, can get involuntary erections, which should be seen as a natural bodily function and that the man may not be able to control his erection.
In nearly 30 years of involvement in naturism, during which I've seen thousands of penises, I can only recall a few instances where I've thought 'he's got an erection' and been concerned about it. And I have NEVER come across an instance of a man masturbating an erection in a naturist environment. I know it happens and I have heard of men being thrown out of naturist events for doing so, but I have always taken the view that the people involved were not 'proper' naturists anyway, but people looking to get sexual kicks out of seeing naked bodies.
That train of thought led me towards strokies and erections. I've said before in this blog that my ability to maintain a serviceable erection has been severely compromised since my stroke. Yes, I can masturbate myself to an erection and my wife can get me there with her fingers or her lips, but it's not as hard or long-lasting as it was. I'm sure I'm not the only male strokie to whom this applies.
As I've said previously in this blog, it doesn't bother me all that much. It is what it is and my wife and I have found different ways to keep our sex life on track. But do men obsess too much about the size of their penis? Pornography always portrays men with unfeasibly-large erections, but does it actually matter?
I don't think it does. I'm definitely of the school of thought which says that it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it. So in a naturist setting, I have never felt embarrassed by the diminished size of my penis and anyway, 'proper' naturists aren't concerned by that. It's like a woman being concerned about how she would be regarded in a naturist environment because she hasn't got 'perfect' breasts. In my opinion, 'perfect' breasts don't exist, any more than the perfect penis exists.
I do a lot of talks about naturism and I always point out that there are seven billion people on this planet, with seven billion body shapes. Each is unique to us and we should be proud of it. So am I going to stress myself that my penis and my erection isn't what it was? Absolutely not. I'm going to be proud of the fact that I still have a fully-working body which allows me to enjoy naturism and sex. And enjoy it while I can.
